CCTV News (News Broadcast): Today (July 25), the Ministry of Transport held a press conference to interpret the "National Highway Network Planning." By 2035, the total scale of my country's highway network will be about 461000 kilometers, of which the total planned mileage of the national highway network will be about 162000 kilometers; the total planned mileage of the ordinary national highway network will be about 299000 kilometers. In the future, all counties and cities across the country will be connected to ordinary national highways in 15 minutes, and prefecture-level administrative centers and cities and counties with a population of more than 100000 in urban areas will be connected to national highways in 30 minutes.
Data show that by the end of 2021, the total mileage of highways in China has reached 5.28 million kilometers, the national highway has been built for 117000 kilometers, and the ordinary national highway has a mileage of 257700 kilometers. The scale of road network has been in the forefront of the world, and the mileage of expressways ranks first in the world. At present, the highway network with national expressways as the main body has covered 98.8 per cent of urban areas, cities with a population of more than 200000 and prefecture-level administrative centers, connecting about 88 per cent of the county-level administrative regions and about 95 per cent of the population in the country. Ordinary national highways basically cover administrative regions at and above the county level and border ports opened all the year round, effectively connecting important towns, industrial parks, transportation hubs and tourist attractions.
