Nowadays, Terrazzo Polishing We can no longer rely on traditional waxing and crystallization techniques. Instead, let’s explore new methods—perhaps by applying the principles behind the impressive mirror-like finish achieved through advanced tile grinding and polishing—to our terrazzo polishing process.
This can be achieved using the Metech 12T-630E multi-functional grinder, paired with diamond stones and resin abrasive discs of varying grit sizes.
We know that all floors that are as shiny as a mirror and highly wear-resistant share one common characteristic: they are both hard and dense. Hardness determines their resistance to abrasion, while density forms the foundation for their polishability—and the ability to achieve a mirror-like sheen. As we all know and have seen countless times, polished tiles are commonly found in nearly every household. They’re easily recognized by their high-gloss, mirror-like finish, along with their smooth, durable, and exceptionally hard surfaces.
At the same time, we also know that terrazzo is cast—created by pouring a mixture of cement and stone chips, followed by polishing. However, typically, it’s polished only to achieve a fine, smooth finish. Compared to polished tiles, terrazzo differs in terms of its porous versus dense structure, lower strength versus high strength, and lower gloss versus high-gloss, mirror-like shine.
We also know that polished tiles are made by pressing clay, leveling the thickness, applying an glaze layer, firing, grinding, buffing, and finally polishing. Precisely because they undergo so many processes and are crafted from such diverse materials, they develop their dense, durable nature—and it’s this very process of grinding and polishing that brings out their characteristic qualities. So, could we perhaps modify the surface layer beneath the water-polished finish, say by 3 to 5 millimeters, to closely mimic the essential traits of polished tiles?

Why not give it a try?
Step one: Penetrate the terrazzo surface with a sealing and curing agent to a depth of 3–5 millimeters. Allow it to react overnight, enabling the cement pores to automatically fill, strengthen, and become denser.
Step two, grinding and restoration: Use Metengqi grinding and restoration pads to grind the fine pores on the terrazzo surface, following the same process.
Step three, apply the reinforcing agent and allow it to penetrate and strengthen overnight once again.
Step four: Grind the surface at low speed with fine abrasives, simultaneously applying a small amount of hardener to strengthen the top layer. Throughout the process, dry-grind while vacuuming continuously. If possible, use a baking method to heat the terrazzo surface up to 100°C, ensuring it dries thoroughly and becomes densely compacted. Allow it to dry completely for one full day and night.
Step 5: Grind and polish using a mechanical grinder equipped with resin abrasive pads at high speed (grinding wheel rotating at 600 RPM), while simultaneously vacuuming up the dust.
Step 6: Grind and penetrate with a low-speed marble crystallizer, then repeat the process—grinding again, followed by penetration and final polishing.

In fact, our grinding and polishing principle for terrazzo is similar to that used for polishing porcelain tiles. After the base gloss is achieved, it can be refined into a dense, mirror-like finish through Meticci’s specialized grinding discs—and when combined with nano-quartz paste penetration polishing, the result easily rivals even the highest-quality polished tiles! This advanced method of filling, densifying, protecting, and polishing terrazzo represents cutting-edge technology in the industry today.
